Teacher Support

More than 3000 hours of teacher training + mentoring = empowered teachers

We Support Teachers

Thirty-five percent of Haiti’s children cannot read

They often come from homes where the parents cannot read. Haiti’s children need dedicated, trained teachers to prepare them for the challenges of the future.

An effective teacher provides a world of learning. Yet there is a severe shortage of trained teachers in all of Haiti. In our region, schools are isolated, and teachers have to travel to the capital, Port-au-Prince, for critical professional development. Our teachers do not have the resources to do so. Nor do teachers have the opportunity to collaborate, share materials, or learn from each other within the region.

Teacher Training Comes to the Mountains

In 2016 we began an exciting program of formal teacher training certification to La Vallee for the first time.

We are bringing formal teacher training to the mountains of rural Haiti to assure the highest quality education possible for Haiti’s children. The training first helps build knowledge base and skills through coaching and workshops. Second, it gives the teachers systems they need for implementing, evaluating, and improving application of evidence-based education practices at the classroom level.

The program is taught by skilled teacher mentors who also provide materials based on the national curriculum. For the first time, La Vallee’s teachers will be coached on updated teaching methods, the latest educational requirements, and given professional classroom resources developed at the national level. Teachers are given a stipend for their participation, and receive formal recognition and certification for completion of the course.

We also provide training for teachers in our computer laboratory in the community library. Our schools do not have computers, and so the teachers need our help to learn this technology in order to share it with their students in the library setting.

Through both of these programs our teachers will be prepared to give Haiti’s children the skills they need to create a better future.

We need you to open this opportunity to more of our caring teachers.
